Happy Thanksgiving

I’m gonna get something on here real quick before a few days filled with activities for my favorite holiday.

-Big game this weekend for the Bearcats. Not because of who they’re playing or anything along those lines, but because of what’s at stake. They can still win the Big East title next week even with a loss to Illinois at home on Friday. But with rivalry games like Auburn/Alabama, Texas/Texas A&M and Florida/Florida State this weekend, they can keep hope alive for that outside shot at the national title. And who doesn’t want a TCU/Cincy title game?
And they can’t lose on senior day for guys like Mardy Gilyard and Tony Pike (among many others) – guys who have brought this program into the national spotlight. An undefeated season without a title game berth would be upsetting. But an undefeated season and another BCS bowl, along with a top five finish being disappointing is very encouraging for Cincinnati fans.
And go out on a high note. Especially for guys like Mardy…he’s an amazing story. This is from last year, but it’s something that rings true this year, as well.

I predict a Bearcat ‘W’. I watched this Illinois team suck it up in St. Louis earlier this season. They got torched by a solid Missouri offense and were stifled by a middle-of-the-pack Missouri defense. Mizzou won that match-up 38-9. If it weren’t for the fact that I think they’ll jump out early and then rest up for next week, I would pick a bigger win for the ‘Cats. Instead, I say Cincy wins, 38-13

– Meanwhile, Bearcat basketball has a shot for a second big win in as many days down in Maui. After knocking off #24 Vandy, the Bearcats take on Maryland in the semifinals. The Terrapins are ranked 22nd and beating opponents by more than 30 ppg. Defensively, they are holding teams to 49.8 ppg and UC’s half-court offense was less than inspiring in last night’s win. It’s going to be big for them to make some adjustments and get in rhythm against a good defensive squad.
By the way…Mick Cronin needs you.
I can dig it.

– I never thought I’d say this after sweeping the Steelers and Ravens, but the Bengals NEED to beat the Browns. Brady Quinn and the Cleveland offense showed life last week. Granted, it was against the Lions, but no one expected the Raiders to move the ball like they did on the Cincy D, and look how that turned out. 6-0 in the division would go a long way if they need it down the stretch, and this team needs to bounce back and show it can win the games it’s supposed to win. So far, it’s been the tough games that have been easy to get. The gimmes continue to slip away. A bounce back this weekend is crucial.

That’s all I’ve got for now. I have my brother’s birthday to celebrate tonight and he needs a gift. I’m thinking Hank Moody might do the trick.
So enjoy the turkey, the pigskin and the best holiday ever invented. I know I will.
Happy Thanksgiving.
Altiora.

Oh…and you’re welcome.
