Belgium is amazing.

Unfortunately, the traveling was not. No big problems. Just a delay here and there, a 15 minute “de-icing” before we took off every time, no room on the flights to get comfortable enough to sleep. As I stand now, I’ve basically been awake for over 30 hours straight. I dozed off once or twice on the big trans-atlantic flight, but never for more than five minutes. I did manage to sleep from take-off to touchdown on the flight from Amsterdam to Brussels, but that flight only lasted 40ish minutes. But, regardless of sleep deprivation, I am here. And I am happy about it…

– The city is absolutely gorgeous. Reminded me a lot of Prague as I wandered around. A lot of pedestrian streets, a lot of pedestrians, tons of stores, even more pubs. I went out for a bit after we got here, and it all seemed pretty awesome. The Grand Place is amazing. They do a light show every night this time of year. I walked through for a while and enjoyed it. It was pretty impressive.

It looks different during the light show, but you get the idea...

– I’m excited to see the Mannekin Pis, or the “Peeing Boy.” It’s one of Brussels’ biggest attractions, apparently. A can’t miss if you’re here. So, if I’m not mistaken, this place could potentially be a pedophile’s dream city. The three things you must experience: the beer, the chocolate, and the peeing boy. Luckily, this peeing boy is just a statue. Otherwise, I’d be kinda creeped out by this place.

Come one, come all! See the Peeing Boy!

– Our hotel is beautiful. And free wi-fi! What a deal. I like it so far. It’s got an automatic revolving door. Not just an automatic one, but an automatic revolving one! Bad. Ass. Only thing it’s missing: heated towel racks. But who am I to judge? Another nice thing: we have a casino literally right across the street from us. I might stop in, throw some money down. As Alan puts it in The Hangover, “It’s not gambling if you know you’re going to win.” I like his attitude. Maybe I will play blackjack…
– A lot of people decided to nap once we arrived, so I haven’t been able to really go out and experience the scene to the fullest yet, but I plan to shortly. This place sounds amazing. They have all 400+ varieties of Belgian beer on tap, plus spirits and even absinthe. I figure I have four days here after tonight. If I go around 100 samples per day, I could try them all. Shall I give it a go?
– I really don’t have much to say yet, seeing as how I haven’t done a whole lot. It’s about ten after six and I’m going to run around town with some of the others on the trip, grab some dinner, take in the sites and enjoy some of the local fare, like the brew (among other things). I figure the experience will be amazing. Hopefully, like usual, I am right.
